I suspect that what you notice is mostly the change in temperature.
Engine warmup takes much longer when it's cold out and the engine
starts out colder. Depending on the time of year, the starting engine
temp diff can be more than 70 F. That's huge, and it makes a big
difference to both FI and carb engines.
