Sorry that it took so long to reply...I cut this mail  short,because of 
lack of time at this moment. I will explain the "no idea  starter 6v thing 
later:)!

A 6 volt starter will last a while on 12 volts. It does turn the engine  
over quickly. The key to making them last is to not crank the engine for  
extended lengths of time, as this causes the starter motor to over heat.
