[T3] type3-vwtype3.org Digest, Vol 29, Issue 16

D-jet was fitted to the 6 cylinder M30 engines in BMW's of the early 1970's, certainly in Europe. The 1973 3.0CSi E9 coupe I owned 10 years ago was fitted with it - the only problem I had with the system was a faulty cold start relay, and a replacement was readily available then through their dealer network. I would expect the CSL and the non carb fitted E3 saloons would have had this also.

I think D-jet actually just does 2 at a time. I don't believe there
were ANY 6 cyl D-jet systems, and the only 8s that I know of were for
Mercedes. The Mercedes systems came with double trigger points (4
contact pairs) so I'm guessing that they fired at 4 different times.
The Mercedes trigger points look like a 2 story version of ours: one
pair stacked on top of another.

If there were actually some 6 cyl D-jet systems, I'd love to hear
about them.

Is it true that the D-Jet alternated the injectors and L-Jet pulsed
simultaneous?
Hope I was clear with my question.
If alternated pairs of injectors which two were paired?

D-Jet fires half of the injectors at a time, iirc, as controlled by the
dual trigger points...whether 4 cylinder, 6, or 8.

D-jet fires alternate pairs, while I believe L-jet fires each
injector every time (for half as long.)

In our D-jet, 1 & 4 fire together, and 2 & 3 fire together. (Think of
the firing order, 1432, and then divide in the easiest fashion.)

Thanks, that's is what I figured but did not want to assume. I have the option
on the MS to do alternating and from what I read it easer on the pressure
regulation.

The 914/6s were all carbs. Only the 914/4s were D-jet.

I don't know about the Volvos. Which ones? Do you have any

What Cosworth engines? Are you SURE they were D-jet? There's a lot of
confusion out there.

When Toyota first introduced the MR-2, Road & Track had an article
about it that talked about it's D-jet FI engine. I was pumped! I went
right out to a dealer to look at one, only to discover that it wasn't
D-jet at all. (L-jet, perhaps?)
