Brion,

Yeah, that 009 feels like a brick off the line and then hits a wall shortly
after. I have a literal "pile" of them from swap-outs.

Seems to me you need a "standard" SVDA dizzy. Jim Thompson (oldvolks home)
lists the "034" distributor as sort of the fits-it-all dizzy. It was
standard in the '74 manual transmission Beetle. I run one in my '68 Double
Cab with twin carbs and I have been very pleased. The Pertronix SVDA is
based off of the "034" and people have had pretty good luck. There are some
other knock-offs that arent so good though. John Connoly at
aircooled.netin Utah used to build custom SVDA's but ran out of good
cores. You might
check with him to see if he has any more.

I could dig around and see if I have a good used 034 body and enough parts
to make a good if you like.
