[T3] connecting rod numbers

when i got my crank and rods back from the machine shop the rods were numbered 1-4 (front to rear he says) . I see there are numbers stamped on the rods 1-4.  are those numbers supposed to go with the appropriate throw number, in which case the machine shop is wrong. i dont understand why they would come from the factory that way and not match up with the same throw, it doesnt seem logical. thanks kk
