Still missing this morning, all throttle levels, after replacing the points,
condenser and retiming it. Its been starting pretty well but unlike the
Notch you have to start it with the throttle wide open
And then quickly let up so you don’t rev it.

Until I got to the Bank

Last year, the one spot it refused to restart hot was the Bank, and this
morning in the same drive in lane it didn’t want to start eather! After
some
Cranking and a backfire that probably had everyone in the bank hit the floor
it lit, and of course started fine after that.

Got home, found that one of the spark plug recepticles was wide open
 (it
wasn’t last fall) and that sure could do it, also found the coil wire was
open but
That was only a bad connection between the wire and the spike on the
connector, not a problem currently. Tried it, better, but still bad.

Changed the plugs, still not any better but the old plugs were as clean and
white as a vanilla shake, so its not been running rich anyway

So I opened up the air volume screws another half to ¾ turn from where the
sync procedure suggested they be, THAT helped!
(I TRIED not to blame the carbs!)

Its much smoother now, the idle is smooth, but its still not “Fuel injection
smooth” (sorry, had to get that in there)
It feels like it has a slight intermittent miss under light to moderate
throttle and opening the air jets up any farther doesn’t help. I do notice
this on the Notchback too
Sometimes
almost like its hunting and pecking for a happy spot when
cruising along.

So how much do those air volume jets control the mixture over the whole
curve? I had always thought they were mainly for idle mixture.
