I recently had a (strong opposing view) discussion with a '68 Type 3
owner in Texas about removing the FI system and going to dual carbs.

His opinion was the car ran better in all-around city and highway
speeds. He felt the FI system was a huge PITA. He yanked all that FI
off and put on carbs.

My experience with my "69 (one owner car) has been,
WHEN everything is adjusted correctly ... tires, alignment, 91 octane
fuel, timing, valve clearances, good fuel hoses/fuel pump/injectors/SP
wires/etc. there is no better running car.

But then again, I'm a "stocker" kinda guy. It's not like, those who
are an the "darker side" are wrong ... just different.

The car came as a FI car. I figure the German engineers, designers,
and those who wrenched them together, absolutely knew what they were
doing after the first Type 3's were built, 7 years previously. Yeah,
I know the FI versions came later in the production, but .... it was
still a "work-in-progress" improvement.

Am I being too much of a purist?
Or is there solid evidence by converting a FI car to a carbed car
makes it a better running vehicle?
