[T3] FI to Carb conversion

To elaborate on that "from a 67 type 3" point, not all 32  PDSIT-{2,3} 
carburetors are the same.  VW changed them over the years,  and for best results 
you should match your engine displacement, number of  intake ports on your 
heads, distributor, and carbs.  For a downgrade from  FI, you'd have a 1600 
dual port, obviously.  The correct 32 PDSIT carbs  can be identified by a 
stamping on the outside of the fuel bowl (on the flat  surface, opposite the 
choke, not in the same area as the "32 PDSIT" markings  themselves).  The 
ones you'd be looking for are marked VW98-1 and  VW99-1.  The distributor you'd 
want to use with them is 311 905  205G.


 
Good points made there, as the jetting changed over the years, as  did 
other parts of the carbs themselves. Keep in mind that other countries  
continued to use carbs after FI was introduced, and some of those have found  there 
way into the USA too. But carbs built prior to 67 were for single port  
heads, and will most likely need to be re-jetted (as Keith found).
