>As far as highway cruising, 70 is where it likes to speed with the ability
to go 75 in a passing situation.
>The only problem with that is that the speed limit is 75 and everyone goes
80.
>I would like the ability to cruise 75 and still be able to pass if need be.

Everyone to their own choices on picking the speed at which they travel; or
Like Dave P. said, when we caravan-ed from Iowa City to Colorado
Springs "Elwood likes to run (the "sweet spot") at 73(?) mph."
I think I quoted you correctly, Dave.

My thought, whenever I hear people talk about Speed Limit is:
By law, the posted Speed LIMIT, is the maximum allowable speed.
That doesn't mean you can't run a bit slower.
Yeah -- I know, slower car speeds irritate those who always travel 2.5, 5
or 7 mph over the posted Speed Limit and boast that they never get a
speeding ticket.

Since we've been full-time motor homing for 12 years and pulling our
"toads" (2000 Honda or 1969 Square) all over the country. Our 5.9L,
Cummins turbo diesel "pusher" with 6-speed Allison tranny doesn't even get
into top gear until 58/59 mph.

On 65 mph, 4-lane Interstates we like to run at ~63/64 mph. Those which
choose to drive 70 or 75 mph can go around us.
On "red roads" (state two lane) we often run in 5th gear at the speed
limit.
Our rig weighs in at just over 14 tons (28,800#) and pulling the Honda
(~3050#) or Square (~2000#) adds more weight. On the Honda we have
an auxiliary braking system which is proportional. On the Type 3, the
motor home brakes do the work.
Most car drivers have no concept of how long it takes to get "up to speed"
when entering a highway, or get us stopped when they "duck-and-weave" in
front of us.

I don't mean to "stir the pot", but IMHO, that's how we handle the Speed
Limit.
