We've had a few frosty mornings, but not many, and no snow (yet) but rain
most days, which has been bad news for people living in low-lying areas.
Some got flooded out at Christmas, and are still underwater, some are living
upstairs, but the foul water in the houses has driven most out. It's
causing trouble for farmers having to move livestock from flooded barns and
fields. The rivers are full, and being tidal near the sea, the spring tides
are higher than in winter, so the level rises further and spills over flood
barriers. Some villages can only be reached by boat.

Still, the politicians have finally realised after nearly 2 months that
something's wrong and needs dealing with. Ironic that the Thames is in
flood now as well! A succession of winter storms has washed away
sea-fronts, railway lines, etc. It's not quite been hurricane force, but
inshore fishermen haven't been to sea since early January - not good for
your cash-flow.

Worst rainfall and succession of storms since the 1700's. I've not driven
the Type 3 for a couple of months.

While this winter has been unusually cold for us in Wisconsin, it's
something we're used to and prepared for. I hear complaining from Dennis
down south, but we haven't heard anything from Marion in Georgia.

What's it been like down there? Ice storms? Frozen pipes? Power outages? No
telephone?

For us, it's just potholes, frozen water mains, and the comforting sound of
the snowplow driving by at 5 AM.
