Those are all good points, and I don't have the answers. I'm gonna 
guess that there have been changes in the cats as well as the oil 
over the years. Another thing that may have changed is lean burn 
engines. If you use less fuel, and run a little hotter, that may 
change the kinds of compounds that make it into the cat.

Rotella and Delo may have switched to additives that work somewhat 
the same as ZDDP, but don't have the same effect on the cats.
