Cover the foam with a layer of very thin plastic. Something like the cheap drop cloth plastic sold for painting or what covers clothing from the cleaners.

+ The hardest part was fitting the new covers over the front seat
+ backs. The new covers wanted to stick to the foam rather than slide
+ down over the seat back.
