Well, of course you have to deal with the compression issue with #1.  Is that real?  Have you done multiple checks to be sure?

Assuming that is a glitch and the compression is actually good, I don’t see any issue putting the ’72 system in a ’71, as long as you have matching ECU, MPS, and TVS, and the wiring to match.  If you are handy with a VOM you can figure out how to wire it up, equipped with the proper wiring diagram.

Pumps are interchangeable for all years, and they all use a pair of relays (one for main FI power, one for the fuel pump).

It will take some time, but there is no reason not to try, and end up with a dependable FI system.
