all 66 and up mufflers will fit, you just need the matching tail pipe,
2 piece for the pre 72 mufflers and the early mufflers have a
smaller outlet and wont breath as well.

I think measurements, or some parts compatibility check, or some
confirmation by one who's already replaced a '72 with a '68, would be Almost
as good as a photo.  Some here may know if a '68 muffler would replace a
rusty '72.I don't remember, or know, what a header is yet but will look it
up.

Thanks....

John, I have a muffler and header fr a '68 that I will sell. Not sure if
it'll fit or not. What's the diff between early and late muffs? I can take
a pic if need be.

Still no luck finding a? '72 muffler.? But this situation will be a good
test of the durability of Muffler Patch Kits.? So, far so good.
I don't need tail pipe, damper pipe or those heat exchanger duct
things...just the big tank part...the muffler.
Those heat exchanger come off ok (in my experience) with a special flat
wrench? and a hammer to whack it loose.? I have to borrow that wrench from
a mechanic friend.
Is it really the case that people with their super-restored cars hoard
extra mufflers?? Or, where else do they get them?? Or are they replaced by
welders using mufflers that will fit...with the modifications?
