[T3] My final question about the auto trans fluid level.

The dipstick is flat horizontally for most of its length so that it 
can flex and follow the curve down to the AT. The last few inches are 
rotated 90 deg so that only an edge, and neither flat, will press 
against the side of the tube as you pull it out. To get the max 
advantage out of that design, you need to pull the dipstick straight 
out and not rotate it on the way.

I'm willing to be proved wrong, but I'm skeptical about the 
possibility of one side getting wiped off by a side of the tube. Try 
this with something circular, of about the same diameter, that's not 
dry to start with. Even with something flat, I think you'd have to be 
really careful to get a clean wipe.

I like Bob's suggestion of flipping the dipstock 180 deg and trying 
that.

I'm willing to bet that your ATF level is low and things will start 
to make more sense if you add some.
