Here are the production numbers for '72 & '73:

Note that X engines were '72 only. I think these were California cars with 
EGR (I had one of those, with an X engine.). Looking at the parts book, I
see 
that the same pistons were called out for all the '72-3 U05, U50, and X 
engines.
