[T3] Toothed V Belts

The reason Toothed V Belts were first made was for better Grip. Toothed Belts provide the same amount of “ Drive “ a Lower Belt Tension, thereby saving your Dynamo ( Generator ) Bearings. My first experience of a Toothed Belt was when I owned a Lotus Cortina in the 1970s. The Belt drove the Dynamo and the Water Pump. The Water Pump Bearings were prone to failure. Running a Toothed Belt at a Lower Tension extended the life of the Water Pump.

From what I've found most all the replacement belts are cogged . The ones
at ISP west are Continental and also cogged . I only saw a Dayco brand that
is not cogged.

I think the reason is the cogged belts flex better , The one on my car now
isn't cogged yet it's beginning the crack. I got a Gates 7390 which is
cogged 7395 is 1/2 longer ID and if I recall was to loose.

Just wanted to let y'all know that it wasn't the steering box after all.
It's the brakes.  I filled the reservoir up, and a few days later, it was
back down to about half an inch or so.  I need to get in there with a
flashlight to see if there's a crack in the reservoir, or maybe in the
rubber lines that connect it to the metal brake lines.  It's been raining
pretty hard, so as soon as I get a dry day with good light, I'm gonna
look.  Brakes seem to work OK with such a low fluid level in the
reservoir.  I put new cardboard under the car inthe garage, and the stain
goes from the driver's side front wheel to the center of the car, between
the front wheels.
