That much end play is probably not from wear of the bearing. It is probably
due to the #1 main bearing becoming loose in the case, although it might be
due to a poor rebuild where they left out a shim to keep the end play from
being too tight, or they just did a rebuild using stock OD bearings in a case
that has seen hard use and should have been align-bored for oversize
bearings.
It might be a good core, but my guess is that it needs a proper rebuild to be
reliable.
