That would be a really good thing to do, but it's really, really hard and time 
consuming to do with just a VOM/DVM in hand.  

I wonder if he could find someone in his area who has one of the Bosch D-jet 
testers. Those make all these tests, AND they make them quick and easy. 
It's just 15 minutes to get the brain out, 15 minutes, or less, to run the tests, 
and 15 more to reinstall the brain. Of course, if problems are found, add the 
time to correct them.
