[T3] type3-vwtype3.org Digest, Vol 150, Issue 11

Vredestein are great Tyres. Sadly they no longer produce the Sprint +
which did have a Classic looking tread pattern.

What are still available in 165 80 15, in the UK anyway, are Vredestein
T Trac and Continental CT 22. When I " re shod " our 1972 Variant a few
years ago I was going to fit 5 Vredestein Sprint + which were still
available then. The Tyre Dealer in Penrith, Cumbria UK persuaded me to
fit 185 65 15 Michelins instead, as that size would always be available.
Unfortunately 185 65 15 does not fit in the Spare Wheel Well, so I have
4 185 65 15 Michelins and 1 Spare 165 80 15 Vredestein that has never
touched the Tarmac !

Hi,I installed the repros of the Michelin XZX on my '68 Squareback.?
?I really liked the look, as it appeared very period correct to me.?
?Also the ride and handling were both very good.? ?Not a lot of weight
was required to balance them either.
Good luck!Todd Heimer

Not those, but SO FAR, I haven?t had issue with the Nexen's I put on the
front of the square, we'll see how they feel on the rear when the
Federals
finally wear
Out back there. Havent put the Nexen's thru a frog choking gullywasher
yet
either.

It's been a LONG time since I could buy my favorite Michelin 165SR15 XZX
tires, and our size has completely disappeared from all the major tire
makers'
lineups. Since then, we've all been scrambling for a reasonable
alternative.
Everything now available seems to come from S. Korea or SE Asia.
Richard Spryer and I have been looking together and both of us found the
Americus Touring Plus All-Season Tire - 165/80R15 87T. It's available
here:
https://tiresshipped2you.com/collections/americus
<https://tiresshipped2you.com/collections/americus>
Price is an extremely reasonable US$62.60 each, with free shipping.
Does anyone have any experience with these?

Never tried this, bounce drier sheets seem to work against the mice,
but
those are not bulletproof.
The 20W50 is great undercoating but does need re-application every fall,
or
at least a touch up. I suspect
Some of the professional products are better so long as they are oil
based
and can seep into the crusty rust, encapsulants
Or things that cover it up like rubberized undercoating just trap the
inevitable salt that does get in.
And the oil application not only makes an ungodly mess, the applicator
also
needs 2 showers afterward!

Keith,
I know you have your own rustproofing routine, but here's a company that
makes some special rustproofing products that can also be bought with an
anti-mouse ingredient.
Have you heard of these guys? They make rustproofing, here:
https://nhoilundercoating.com/product/car-truck-undercoating/
<https://nhoilundercoating.com/product/car-truck-undercoating/>
and mouseproofing/rustproofing, here:

<https://nhoilundercoating.com/how-to-keep-mice-out-of-your-atv/>
I wonder if this stuff also works against larger rodents.

I have them on the Notch, Sean is right... excellent tires, except
perhaps in the cold. They have a very low treadwear rating
So I didn?t go for them on the Square as I put a lot of miles on that on
the highway and for what I paid, I didn?t want a set to wear out that
fast.

Jim,
No experience with the Americus but don?t forget about the Vredestein
Sprint Classic. They are available in the correct size, they look the
part, they are made in the Netherlands, and they are a great-handling
tire. They are definitely more expensive though, at $150/tire at Tire
Rack.

I saw those on Jessica & Daniel's '69 and wasn't impressed. The tread
was
more of a mud/snow tire than anything else and I believe they had worn
about
half way down in very few miles. Correct me if I'm wrong about this.

I donTMt think ITMd describe the tread as a mud/snow type but it is

This makes me wonder if we're talking about two different Vredestein

Could you send me a photo of your tread, so I can compare with my
memory? Direct email please; the email list does not accept attachments.
