I'm not familiar with Silverline bearings. Tell me about them.

What is the coating that you wipe off?

Yes, this sounds disturbing. It seems like the only things that could be going
on here are a short in the wire to the oil pressure switch or a sudden drop in
pressure. Assuming a wiring problem is unlikely, what could cause a sudden
drop in pressure? I can think of 2 possibilities:

1) One of the pressure relief valves had been stuck and suddenly released,
letting oil flow into a space previously filled with air. This would cause a very
brief drop in pressure.

2) The oil pump driven gear shaft came loose and started to slip. I've never
seen this happen, but I've heard that it's a possibility. It's just a press fit and I
can imagine that slipping would rather quickly cause it to gall and weld itself
back together.

In your first 10 minutes at 2500 rpm, since you say you have an actual oil
pressure gauge, what was the oil pressure?
