I've had points in my T3s for as long as I've owned them (three over 15
years), and every single time I came up against a gremlin problem that shut
the car down it's been traced to a problem that had no bearing on the points
whatsoever.

Short circuits in the +12 to ground, resistive wiring in the fuel pump
circuit causing the pump to cut out, unsecured distributor walking up off
the drive cog, and an embarrassingly wide array of user errors... but not
the points.

My gut is telling me that if you're having unexplained cut out problems now,
you'll still be having them with an electronic ignition. Only then it will
be that much more complicated to troubleshoot, what with the additional
circuitry. Points are about as simple as a doorknob.

Just my two bits, and I'm always willing to accept I might be wrong..
