Well I would still say try and call Dan or Mike at Competition Engineering. Mike is good with the automatics in performance setups also. So he might have an idea or at least say you might have to live with it for now.

Yeah, I already have mine choked down to 28mm. The 36's come stock with 30's and the 40's came stock with 34's. Because of the stock engine and such, I knew both of these options would be to big. The 28's are what everyone recommends for a stock 1600 with stock heads.

Once again the sticking point is this automatic. Word to the wise, only buy automatic if you plan to stick 100% stock. If you plan on having ANY fun just get you a manual.

I think the next thing to do would be to try and bump the displacement up.
Maybe a set of 88mm thick walled pistons to get the engine a little more low end torque to handle that initial rush from the carbs. This is something I cannot do now. Just another Idea for another day.
