[T3] Long Center Brake Line

Compression fittings aren't permitted as repair procedures on brake lines in the UK - they have to be repaired by flaring and a proper connector used. To flare the steel lines requires a professional tool. I borrowed one to replace the damaged rear part of the front to rear pipe on a watercooled VW - not too easily done in situ, as the pipe had numerous bends and clips everywhere which would have been a nightmare to get right.

On the Type 3, there are 3 grommets listed, with the front one being part 211 611 751, while the two rear ones are both the same, and for '71 are 311 611 743), but from '72 models they are 311 611 835. I wonder what changed?

Jim ... since I HAD a problem with my left front brake --- you thought the problem MAY have been caused by the spindle/caliper assembly to turn too far. That may have caused the stretching of that hose, causing it to crack and drain the brake fluid from the reservoir. Result: No front braking.

Also when we talked, I told you the back in the '80's my main steel line had rusted through near the area next to the tunnel; from *~ *the front of the front seat, to *~ *the rear of the front seat.
I cut out about a 12" - to - 16" section of that brake line ... just enough to get to good metal ... installed a new section of brake line with compression fittings. That solved the "rusty" steel brake line. It's still holding.

When Bob Heydt had my seats and carpet out for repairing my heater tubes and rockers, I should have measured that brake line section that I replaced.
Bob: Do you remember about how long that replacement section was?

Jim Re:
Your new copper-nickel brake line material.

Having clients send you the "old line" so you could re-use & install the rubber grommets before installing those VW bubble flares(?) & line nuts ....

1.) Are those rubber grommets still available, without reusing the old ones?
2.) Or are those grommets one of those "no longer available" parts?
3.) About how long is that long center brake line?
