With extensive help a advice from Jim in 2010, I began the "resurrection"
of my '69 Square.
The fuel system was first. After replacing some (mistake #1) of the
41-year-old fuel hose, I bought about 30 OE VW hose clamps from Ernie Von
Schledorn in Milwaukee. EVS is a long-time VW dealer.
With a name like Von Schledorn, what car brand would you expect him to sell?
>I would have expected them to work, but they are just too >expensive.
IIRC, they were ~$3.00 each. But as some of you may know, I'm a
dyed-in-the-wool, "stocker", whenever possible. So buying the OE VW clamps
was OK.
>[OE VW clamps] have the advantage of full 360 constraint, >but so do the
plastic snap clamps, which cost 1/6 as much.
Jim, are you saying the plastic snap clamps cost ~$.50 each?
BTW. Last Wednesday we "prepped" the Square for the summer driving
season.
At the hanger, we
1.) uncovered the car,
2.) removed the 4 Jack Stands,
3.) installed the battery,
4.) "primed" the FI system with the Jim-installed, 3-position Fuel Pump
Switch for *~*10 seconds,
5.) Turned the Ignition Switch to start. It "coughed".
6.) ... 2nd time, the engine fired and seemingly ran as normal.
A "Woo-Hoo" moment.
