[T3] Dist trigger points?

I was able to fit the 73 can on the 72 they were the same . I don't know
for certain if early 72 distributors were different from late or if both
were the same. I recall we talked about this once long ago.

I don't have a parts washer or parts washer fluid .

I only rebuilt the 73 AH and I know it was never apart. I could see at
some point someone sprayed red grease all over the inside and it was
difficult to get that out. Basically I used the steel shims that were in
the trigger cam. They had no wear and looked new. I measured with a
micrometer and replaced the fiber one then measured the lower larger ones
and replaced two with the new ones and a new fiber one just to get around
.004" play. Then I put some grease on the trigger plate and installed it to
see if the cam hit the trigger plate , it didn't. That trigger plate had
some wear but I had it in the 72 dist for many years and never took that
one apart and that was most likely what caused the wear. I didn't know at
the time . I never had one apart.

Once I get both the spares I have apart, if I need more steel shims that
fit in the trigger cam I can use some to make a good dist. Right now I have
no idea which one is better as far as shaft and sleeve bearing wear.
However I think I have enough good parts from both to make one good one.

There is not much info on these FI type 3 distributors and I searched for
weeks. My main concern with the felt is I have no idea how well the engines
these came out of had the oil changed which might introduce grit on the
shaft and onto the lower bushing. The way you do it with parts washer fluid
would get that felt pretty clean.

 I do appreciate the help.
