Yes. Type 3 Twin Carburettor Models were available in probably all markets except the USA until the end of production in 1973 1974. My October 1972 Type 3 Variant is a 1600A Twin Carburettor Automatic Transmission Right Hand Drive United Kingdom Model. Don’t know who ordered it New from a U.K. VW Dealer but Automatic Transmission with Automatic Choke Twin Carburettors is a terrible combination ! Fuel Injected Auto Transmission Models are great by comparison !

The Notchback is on the road but lots of work remains!
I have the odd electrical gremlin. Random blown fuses. At what point do you replace the entire harness? I don?t generally replace parts randomly but does wiring ?wear out?? Is this preventative maintenance or overkill?
My 69 is fuel injected but the FI harness is generally not included. Were 69s carbureted in some markets?

Old wires don't "wear out." I think the only time I might be tempted to replace
an entire harness would be if the original had been destroyed in a fire. Part
of the problem is that the replacements you can buy are "generic", so you
won't be able to buy an exact replacement that duplicates all the original
features of your car. By the time you get everything sorted out, you'd have
been better off simply troubleshooting and repairing your OE harness.

Most '69 Notches came with carbs. There are very few FI Notches still on the
road, which makes this worth saving. You should be able to use any FI
harness from any FI '68-9 Type 3. They are out there, you just have to find
the right junkyard. I probably have one in poor condition, which could get
you started.

The OE lubricant is most likely something like soap or soap solution. Any
exposed stuff would have gotten washed away decades ago, but any that
was sheltered might just look gummy. It might be interesting to test it to see if
it was water soluble.

You may have some wires that have open ( not insulated) sections that bumps
cause them to short out. A friend had one of the wires to the carb choke
fall off and shorted causing the entire harness to the rear to short out on
his 70 squareback. Smoke was coming out from under the dash as well as
along the harness. He replaced the entire harness, back & front. For my 65
Notch and his 70 square we found that the harness from ISP West were very
good.

This has been discussed over on The Samba a few times, as the wiring harness that ISP West sells is for non-FI cars. To use it for an FI car one would need to add 3 wires to make it work correctly. Those 3 wires are to power up the FI system.Bob 65 Notch S with a factory Sunroof

I have a VW NOS Fi harness, but I think it's for a later (C/D ?) computer. I have at least one other FI harness, but I'm not sure what? year/ computer version it's for.?

won't be able to buy an exact replacement that duplicates all the original
features of your car. By the time you get everything sorted out, you'd have
been better off simply troubleshooting and repairing your OE harness.
